Philosophy for Children
P4C (Philosophy for Children) is an enquiry based approach that develops pupils’ thinking skills. We teach one or two P4C lessons per term and choose stimuli that relate to key global issues such as equality, fairness and respect. Each lesson, or enquiry, follows 10 steps including the sharing of an image stimulus, thinking time, first thoughts, question making and sharing, voting to decide the question to be discussed and then time to offer thoughts and build on them as a class. P4C has 4 core values of being caring, collaborative, critical and creative which we relate to our 3 school rules of being Ready, Respectful and Responsible. P4C at Bantock aims to teach children to listen and respect each other’s views, to be clear in their thinking and to consider thoughtful responses and understanding of important global issues.
